ECON 597D, Section 001, Computational Economics and Econometrics

The time is Tuesday, 6:00-9:00 p.m., Room 210 Chambers Bldg. The first class meeting is Tuesday, August 25, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Before class begins, I would ask that you purchase these two books

They should be in the bookstore. However, they are very common and can be ordered online from Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, or purchased at Barnes and Noble.

If you have a Mac, install Xcode . If you have a PC, instal Cygwin, http://www.cygwin.com or MinGW (the Minimalist GNU for Windows) http://www.mingw.org

I would ask that before classes commence you practice simple commands with the help of "Teach Yourself Unix in 10 Minutes," and get some familiarity with the vi (aka vim) editor. Then read Chapter 0 of "Accelerated C++" and get the "Hello World" program to work with the g++ compiler.

If you can accomplish the above, we will be off to a great head start.
